Afrika Bambaataa Mission to Preserve Vinyl

Afrika Bambaataa’s record collection has long been a thing of folklore. Very few have viewed it most have only heard about it. Afrika Bambaataa‘s record collection is currently being housed at Cornell University in their Hip Hop archives. In this episode of Crate Diggers we get a peek at the awesomeness of this record collection. Ben Ortiz, the assistant curator of Cornell’s Hip Hop archives, gives us a tour of this massive record collection. Afrika Bambaataa, leader of the Universal Zulu Nation, himself discusses how he started collecting vinyl and his pursuit to preserve this important part of music history.

Bambaataa’s collection is housed alongside a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation and other historical antiquities to further cement the importance of his collection.
